Products | Passivations
In order to give zinc or cadmium deposits, aluminium and its alloys as well as zinc die cast and galvanised parts the satisfactory level of protection, chromates are necessary.
Under the trademark PROSEAL we offer various passivations which, apart from other components, contain either hexavalent chromates [Cr6+] or trivalent chromium salts [Cr3+]. They produce different coloured coatings with distinctive corrosion resistant characteristics and are suitable for both rack and barrel plating. Depending on the thickness of the zinc coating, exposure time and chemical structure of the chromate conversion coating, you can achieve corrosion resistances in salt spray tests (DIN 50021-SS or ASTM B-117) up to 244 h. A post-treatment with our clear varnish SURFASEAL® WL-40 increases the corrosion resistance considerably.
To protect Aluminium (Al) surfaces and provide an excellect primer prior to painting, we recommend our PROSEAL 24/F (used in immersion or spray installations). This protection quickly builds a chromate film.
If plated deposits of copper (Cu) or non-ferrous metals (Nf) need to be temporarily protected against corrosion, we can supply an immersion bath preservative which is chromium-free. The normal painting of a product can then follow.
